"My candidacy and servitude is not constrained solely to the students and parents of District 2, but to all of the 43,000 students, parents and the 6,000+ employees who serve system wide."
Makenzie McDaniel, MPA
Makenzie McDaniel, MPA, is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated in 2003 from Chamblee Charter High School, Dekalb County, GA. At a young age, the importance of education and servitude was stressed by his parents and family alike. His father had a saying that resonates today, “If you work now you can play later. If you play now you will have to work later.” And work is what he did.
Before graduating high school, Makenzie continued the “family tradition” of serving our nation by enlisting in the United Army Reserves in 2002. He deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2006-2007. Upon his return, he became a certified police officer with the DeKalb County Police Department. He served on the South Precinct Burglary / Robbery Suppression Team, Back on the Block Program and received numerous precinct commendations and training. In 2010, he was placed on Active Duty orders in support of his Brigade Homeland Defense Mission as the Logistics Branch
Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge.
While on Active Duty, Makenzie received numerous certifications from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) and Department of Homeland Security Interagency Course. Additionally, he was directly responsible for $26 million in equipment and supervised the procurement of $47 million in equipment for units under his supervision.
In 2014, he was subsequently honorably discharged from the military at the rank of Staff Sergeant and resigned from the police department.
Upon relocating from DeKalb to Henry County, his service continued. He is currently serving on the Luella Elementary School Council (4 years); he is a member of the Connecting Henry Board of Directors and Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. However, serving has not been limited to him solely. Mrs. McDaniel has volunteered numerous of hours at Luella reading to students, assisting the teacher in the classroom environment amongst other things. On an annual basis, the McDaniel family provides Christmas gifts to numerous families.
Makenzie would tell you, that all he is and is to come is because of his faith and trust in God. It is that faith and trust, that allowed him to serve his community and the nation, but also the church. Having answered the call to teach God’s word in 2005, he is an ordained elder in the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church. He has pastored in Rome, GA; Waynesboro, GA; Lincolnton, GA and currently in Atlanta, GA.
Finally, he would say that one of his biggest accomplishments in life is graduating with his Master of Public Administration, the first of his family, in 2018.
He is a devoted father and husband. In 2007, Makenzie married the former Tameika White and together they have four children: Jordan, Jayden, JaNiyah and Jazmin.
My undying and unwavering commitment and life purpose is serving the community in which my family and I live.
My candidacy and servitude is not constrained solely to the students and parents of District 2, but to all of the 43,000 students, parents and the 6,000+ employees who serve system wide.
